Willet Small Batch 4 Year Bourbon
The unicorn house, pouring its own whiskey at last. Willett’s stills in Bardstown went cold in the late 1970s, and for decades the Kulsveen family built the brand’s legendary status by curating sourced barrels — bottles that now trade like rare art. Then Britt and Drew Kulsveen fired the family stills back up in 2012, and this Family Estate Small Batch 4-Year is the estate distillate thesis statement: Drew’s blend of two house mash bills — roughly 70% high-rye bourbon (a huge 38% rye) with 30% low-rye for balance — barreled at 125 proof, blended by flavor, and bottled uncut at full cask strength, with the proof varying batch to batch. It drinks bigger than its age: honey, orange peel, vanilla, and brown sugar riding a spicy rye backbone into tobacco, red berries, and a jalapeño-tingle finish. The famous pot-still pedigree, actually made at Willett — add a few drops of water and watch it bloom.
