The serious side of Lambrusco. Cleto Chiarli is Modena's oldest winery — founded in 1860, still family-run — and Nero Noir is its top-of-the-line dark Lambrusco: the celebrated single-vineyard Vigneto Enrico Cialdini bottling (named for the Risorgimento general), now flying the flagship Vecchia Modena colors. Grown in Castelvetro, the historic heartland of Lambrusco Grasparossa, and made by a single fermentation under pressure — the must ferments once, in tank, keeping the fruit vivid and pure — it pours inky violet under a foaming purple mousse: blackberry, black cherry, and violets with a savory earthy streak, gentle tannic grip, and a dry, juicy finish with just a kiss of dark-fruit sweetness. The 2024 earned 92 points from Vinous at Eric Guido's New York sparkling tasting. Serve it chilled with what Modena drinks it with: salumi, parmigiano, pizza, and anything involving pork.
