The wine that turns winter into an occasion. The Tommasi family has farmed the hills of Valpolicella Classica since 1902 — four generations, still family-run from Pedemonte with 135 hectares of estate vineyards — and Amarone is their calling card. The method is Veneto's slow-motion magic: Corvina, Rondinella, Corvinone, and a touch of Oseleta are laid out on racks after harvest and dried for months, concentrating every berry before a winter pressing, then aged long in traditional big Slavonian oak casks. The 2021 is classic Tommasi — deep ruby turning garnet, black cherry, plum, and dried fig layered with raspberry, bay leaf, black peppercorn, sweet tobacco, and fresh earth — full-bodied yet fresh, with ripe tannins and crisp acidity carrying its 15% effortlessly. 93 points from James Suckling, 92 from Wine Spectator, and built to drink through 2036. Braised short ribs, osso buco, aged parmigiano, or a fireplace.
