Aromatic grapes, zero rules. King Klong is the sibling to EXITPLAN in Scott Sampler’s Scotty-Boy! lineup — the “less judgy, more chuggy” alter ego of his acclaimed Central Coast Group Project — and this one turns the skin-contact treatment loose on aromatic whites: 60% Riesling and 40% Pinot Grigio from Santa Barbara County, run through full carbonic maceration and skin fermentation (the label’s full recipe: “full carbonic / skin fermented / love”). Pinot Grigio’s copper skins give it that glowing ramato-orange hue, and the carbonic lift keeps it all juice: tangerine, white peach, and Riesling’s floral zing over gentle tea-leaf grip, bone-dry at an easy 12%. Ingredients, per the label: “Grapes (Nothing Added / Nothing Taken Away).” Serve it cold with spicy takeout, fish tacos, or a soft cheese — subtitled by Sampler himself: “Are you there, god? It’s me, Quasimodo — part 2.”
