Poggio Terra Barbera 23
"The hill of the land" — Poggio Terra is generationally farmed Barbera from the Monferrato hills of Piedmont, where the grape is king, grown on ancient seabed soils of marine fossils, limestone, sand, and clay in the subzones of Mombello and Serralunga di Crea. The estate farms as a living mosaic: cover crops, compost, and polyculture plantings, earning organic certification in 2024. Wild-fermented and rested mostly in concrete with a portion in big neutral botti, the 2023 is everything a liter of Barbera should be — bright raspberry and chewy dried strawberry popping with black pepper, juicy bing cherry acidity, and silky, integrated tannins with minimal sulfur. Serve it slightly chilled and let the extra glass in the bottle do its work: pizza, pasta, charcuterie, and a full table of friends.
