One of California natural wine's true originals: fourth-generation winemaker Darek Trowbridge farms his family's century-old, dry-farmed vineyards in the Russian River Valley using the traditional methods he learned from his grandfather, Lino Martinelli — organic, regenerative, and entirely free of man-made chemicals. Bloom is his beloved chillable red, built from a different blend of heritage grapes every year, always anchored by rarities like Abouriou, the Basque variety his great-grandfather planted. Whole clusters are stomped by foot, wild-fermented, and rested nine months on the lees in neutral barrels, then bottled unfined and unfiltered. Bright, berry-driven, and lightly earthy with soft tannins and a dry finish — give it 30 minutes in the fridge and pour it with just about anything.
