Bierzo is one of Spain's most exciting wine regions — a pocket of mountainous northwest Spain where the native Mencía grape produces Pinot Noir-like reds of extraordinary elegance and complexity. Merayo sources from old-vine Mencía on the slate and quartz soils of the valley floor, and the 2019 shows the grape at its most expressive: red cherry, crushed rock, violet, wild herbs, and silky tannins. An essential bottle for anyone bored of the usual suspects.
