Joseph Drouhin Macon Villages 24
The gateway to white Burgundy from one of Beaune's great family houses — Maison Joseph Drouhin, founded in 1880 and still run by the fourth generation. This Chardonnay comes from clay-and-limestone Jurassic soils in the sunny Mâconnais, just north of Pouilly-Fuissé, gently pneumatic-pressed and fermented cool in stainless steel to keep everything about the fruit. In the challenging 2024 vintage, rigorous sorting paid off: extended September sunshine gave a wine of citrus, fresh orchard fruit, almond, and white blossom — floral, pure, and refreshingly direct, "as if biting into a grape," as the house puts it. A weeknight-perfect Burgundy for roast chicken, creamy pastas, and oysters alike.
