Hendry Albarino 25
Spain’s seaside grape, grown by a nuclear physicist. Hendry Ranch has been one family’s land since 1939, on the gravelly benchland where Napa rises toward Mount Veeder — and for decades it was farmed by the late George Hendry, a cyclotron engineer who mapped his 200 acres into numbered blocks with a physicist’s precision. The Albariño comes from Blocks 2, 27, and 9B, planted in 2003 in deep gravel, and it’s made like the Rías Baixas original: whole-cluster pressed, cool-fermented in stainless, and rested four months in tank — no oak anywhere near it. James Suckling gave the 2025 93 points: “salty, citric and minerally,” all sea spray, stone fruit, citrus, and chalk over a tight, focused palate with surprisingly generous texture. Just 1,500-odd cases, under screw cap, built for oysters, ceviche, grilled fish, or hot-day porch duty — Napa estate farming at a Spanish-white price.
