Gilgal Syrah 22
From Golan Heights Winery — the pioneering producer credited with launching Israel's modern quality-wine revolution in 1983 — Gilgal is the value-driven sister label to the flagship Yarden, made with the same care in the same cellars in Katzrin. The Syrah grows in the Golan's remarkable terroir: volcanic basalt soils at high altitude, where intense Mediterranean sun ripens the fruit and cold mountain nights preserve freshness. The 2023, a low-rainfall vintage with concentrated small yields, spent 12 months in French oak: smoky blackberry and ripe plum layered with cherry, juniper, and Syrah's savory, earthy spice in a medium-to-full-bodied, generously drinkable style. Certified kosher and made for lamb tagine, pepper steak, or spiced grilled anything — the ancient coin on the label comes from real excavations in the region.
