Domaine Paul Cherrier Sancerre 24 750ml
Sancerre's quietly rising star. Domaine Paul Cherrier sits in the tiny village of Verdigny just northwest of Sancerre, where Stéphane Cherrier farms 13 hectares of hillside parcels rooted in rocky Kimmeridgian limestone — the same ancient seabed beneath Chablis's Grands Crus. His father never bottled, selling everything in bulk to more famous names; Stéphane is the one putting the family name on the map, selecting only his best lots for the estate label. Hand-harvested and raised entirely in tank to keep the terroir front and center, the 2024 is a complete, energetic Sancerre: passionfruit, guava, and greengage plum with a tropical zing up front, tightening through quartz-stone minerality to comice pear and quince on the finish. Elegant, restrained power that loves food — goat cheese above all, oysters, and herby roast chicken — with the structure to age surprisingly well.
