Chateau des Matards White 20 750ml
Honest, delicious Bordeaux blanc from the underdog side of the river. Château des Matards is a family-run estate in the rolling hills of Blaye, on the right bank of the Gironde estuary north of Bordeaux — country where crisp, aromatic whites are the local secret and the prices never caught up with the quality. Sauvignon Blanc leads (with Sémillon softening the edges in the blended cuvées), fermented cool and rested on its lees for extra texture. The style is bright and fresh: grassy, spicy green-fruit aromatics over ripe white peach and citrus, a gentle tropical touch from the lees, and a clean, balanced finish. The 2020 has a few years of bottle mellowness on it — drink it now, well chilled, with oysters, goat cheese, grilled white fish, or a picnic. Sancerre satisfaction at a Tuesday price.
