Tetu Grenache 2013
‘Tetu’ is a collaborative project born of a shared devotion to one of France’s greatest regions for old-vine Grenache.
The village of Maury is situated in the foothills of the Pyrenees - a stone’s throw from the Spanish border. Richard and Sarah Case of Domaine de la Pertuisane and Kimberly Jones (‘Courier’) have been making wine there for many years from their respective vineyards. Together they wanted to create a new wine that displayed all the complexities of the local terroir in a style that offered both finesse and old-vine concentration.
Working alongside local growers they were able to select from the area’s finest vineyards. Vines of over 60 years of age cling low to the poorest of black schist soils naturally producing very low yields. The resulting wines display all the depth, minerality and black fruit that typify this small but very special place.
The Catalan donkey or Ruc Catalá is on the label to remind us of the stubborn, determined old vines that persevere in these toughest of soils and harshest of climates - delivering wines of unique style and expression.
