Matchlock Cabernet Sauvignon 18
This Cabernet began as a friendly competition among winemakers and ended in a beautiful balance of acidity, fruit and oak.
When two of our winemakers challenged each other to see who could make a better Cab, each set off to a different sub-appellation of Paso Robles. The Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the sandy loam soils of the Highlands region yielded fresh, fruit-forward wine, while the grapes from Willow Creek provided a dense and more tannic expression. Upon tasting, they realized that the clear winner would be a blend of the two. Aged in neutral and French oak, Matchlock reveals scents of black cherry, ripe strawberry and baking spice, for a full-bodied, masculine, structured wine that exhibits a touch more bright fruit and acid than its counterparts in Napa Valley.
